Bournemouth Hebrew Congregation’s Welfare Group – CHESED

Our aim is to provide practical and emotional support whenever it is needed. Every member of BHC is valued, and we work in a confidential, friendly and caring manner, encouraging a sense of belonging and involvement within our community.

Although many of our members are supported by family and friends, there are times when neither is available, or sometimes it may be easier to talk to someone outside the immediate family.

Our team includes:

– Rabbi Adrian Jesner and Rebbetzen Pamela Jesner
– Reverend Barry Sklan
– Board Member with responsibility for Welfare: Dr Josie Lipsith
– Ladies Guild Chairman: Mrs Thelma Cowan
– Committed Volunteers

CHESED undertakes a range of activities for anyone who wishes to access them:

* Rabbi’s Weekly Clinic Monday and Thursday 9.30 am – 11.30 am
* Welfare drop-in clinic Wednesday mornings 10.00 am -12 noon
* ‘Meet N’ Munch’ Club Tuesdays fortnightly
* Regular Rabbi’s Teas
* Support during illness – Hospital visiting, Home visiting
* Support following bereavement
* Help with shopping
* Help with transport arrangements to hospital appointments, etc.
* Befriending
* Maintaining contact with regular telephone calls
* Pre Yom Tov visits and telephone calls to our more senior members
* Arranging home hospitality for Shabbat and Yomtov
* Listening
* Outings/Day trips

All this, and more, is achieved through a willing and committed group of volunteers who are friendly, sensitive and caring, and of course we all recognise that total confidentiality is paramount.

Please contact us if there is anything we can do for you, a family member, or a friend; if it is important to you, or makes life a little easier, we will do all we can to help.

Our volunteers have a wide range of experience, but if we do not have the expertise you need we will do all we can to find someone who has.

We always need more volunteers; even if you have just one hour a week free you could brighten someone’s day with a phone call! Please contact Josie Lipsith via the office if you can help.
