The Ladies’ Guild

The Bournemouth Hebrew Congregation’s Ladies Guild

The Bournemouth Hebrew Ladies Guild is an integral part of the Congregation but is technically a separate organization with its own constitution, finances and committee.

Founded in 1918, with a weekly membership fee of sixpence, and with the express aims of visiting the sick and needy and raising funds for those in financial straits, the Guild has raised in excess of £123,000. Generous donations have been sent to, among others, Magen David Adom, Hadassah, Shaarei Tzedek, Royal Bournemouth and Poole hospitals.

Over the years the Guild has entertained us with hat and fashion shows, educated us with talks by eminent lawyers, enlarged our waistlines with lunches and dinners and enlightened our minds with a variety of writers and politicians.

Today we provide welfare for those in need, visit the sick and lonely, support the Synagogue with kiddushim and social functions and continue to raise funds for both Jewish and non-Jewish local and national charities.

Once a month we prepare lunch at the Social Centre for some of the senior members of the Bournemouth community.

Our annual membership subscription is only £7 and we extend a warm welcome to all new members of our shul.
